Writing Rules

  1. Basic Format (Mandatory)
  • Font: Times New Roman 12pt
  • Line Spacing: Double spacing throughout the entire text (including notes and references)
  • Margins: At least 1 inch (2.54cm) on all four sides
  • Word Count: Main text + References + Notes ≤ 15,000 words (excluding tables and figures); Comments/Replies ≤ 3,000 words
  • Anonymity Requirement: Double-blind review. Remove all author information, funding details, acknowledgments, and self-citation identifiers from the anonymous manuscript (for self-citations, write "Smith (1992)" instead of "I (Smith 1992)") Sage Journals
  1. Structure and Page Numbering (In Order)
  2. Title Page (separate page, non-anonymous)
  • Complete title, author names + affiliations, corresponding author information, acknowledgments, funding number, 4–5 keywords, total word count Sage Journals
  1. Abstract (separate page, anonymous)
  • 150–200 words, no author information, including research purpose, methods, and core findings Sage Journals
  1. Main Text (anonymous, starting on a new page)
  • Maximum three levels of headings (refer to recent articles in ASR)

  1. Notes (separate section, double spacing)

  • Author name in the sentence: Duncan (1959)
  • Author name not in the sentence: (Gouldner 1963)
  • Direct quotations/specific paragraphs: (Ramirez & Weiss 1979:239–40)
  • 3 authors: Full names for the first citation (Carr, Smith & Jones 1962), subsequent citations (Carr et al. 1962)
  • 4+ authors: Use et al. throughout
